Legends Never Die

Creator of the Walter White Obituary, High School Biology Teacher Dave Layman, with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan.

It’s been over twelve years since Valencia County teacher Dave Layman, took it upon himself to place an obituary with Walter White’s local newspaper. Appropriately, the Albuquerque Journal decided against including the world’s most beloved, pork pie hatted, master meth chef, and former HS biology teacher character, along with real obituaries. Instead they allowed Mr. Layman to purchase a, far more pricey, ad. Mr. Layman threw his hat into some fundraising, and got it done.

That is how the world was gifted a timeless tribute to Breaking Bad, from one amazing teacher to another! Thankfully both the man who played Walter White, and the lovely husband and father, who is responsible for this chapter of Breaking Bad history, are both happy, healthy and thriving!

The character, and the entire show, continues to amaze and intrigue fans all over the globe. Breaking Bad remains heralded worldwide for its incomparable writing, acting, cinematography, crews, and concepts. It was simply amazing, and always will be.

Now that you know the true story of the epic Walter White “Obituary,” here’s a story about the show’s enduring legacy, and the pilgrimages it drives, to this day. No, not simply Breaking Bad tourism, it is pure love of the phenomenon. Love clear as crystal.
